Hi All,

We had a fantabulous week.

Monday:  We were very excited to go the the Rainbow Ctr. We had fun singing, playing and making a dragonfly crafts.. The children did a good job at helping their special friends during the obstacle race. They helped them balance thru walking on a balancing plank. They play catch and throw ball. The best time was obviously the time when they shared their snacks. Food definitely cut thru all boundaries =). Russell went to all the tables and distributed his snacks generously. Good sharing Russell! We had a great time and left Rainbow Centre about 12pm.
(FYI>>>We will be going to Dunearn to host some activities for our friends from Rainbow Ctr.. on the 18th August)

Tuesday: Kellyn started the day with her show and tell. She shared a book on Trees. Kellyn pointed to the coconut trees and says that it look like the ones in Sentosa. She pointed to the raddish and said that the roots are pink. Clayton shared a book on trees too. He read from the book that " if the trees do not breathe, we will not be able to breathe." He mentioned that stomata are holes on the leaf. Clayton also showed us a box of seeds; sunflower seed, orange seeds, green bean seeds etc. Next Chloe Sim shared her yellow daisies seeds. She told us that it will bloom in 80 days and needs water and sunlight. Then I read a book on flowers and talked about its functions and parts. We talked about pollination and nectarsThe children learnt that flowers pollinated by insects are usually brightly coloured and have fragrance. Then we looked at some flowers like frangipani, hibiscus , ixora and orange creeping orchid vine.  We used the magnifying glass and looked for these different parts like anthers, pollen grains, stamens etc. Then I cut a cross section of the hibiscus and showed them the ovary. We learnt words like petals, anthers, stamen, pistil, ovary, ovule , pollen grains etc. The we drew and label a cross section of the flowers.

Wednesday : Time with Amber

Thursday: Matthew shared a book on Nature. He shared about lotus root and told us the the holes in the lotus root is for storing air. Chloe Lee spoke about her time spent with her cousin. Elliot told us about his uncle's sleepover at his house  He had so much fun that he slept under the table coz he was too tired to go to bed! Russell shared about his time in Kumon and when he picked his sister from school. We gave spalding a miss coz we had to practice our song and cheers for the Green Party. The children had fun coming out with the cheers and we also learnt to dance to two 'green song'. I will be emailing the songs to you shortly.. coz the chn requested it!. In the afternoon , we had our our speech and drama . We read the book, The Wolf and the seven little kids. We acted out the story twice to give everyone a chance and had a great time playing in the park.

Friday: We had a great time at our party. The wacky costumes were really great. My overall favourite costume was Matthews. It was made out of his daddy's shorts and T shirt. He tied it up together using a recycled ribbon as a belt . To top it off he wore a hat made of a paper bag. It was functional and fashionable! Bravo Chua family for coming out with this fabulous idea! Adeline choreograph a dance to " Wake Up America" by Miley Cyrus. We had fun dancing it!. Next the different class performed their green cheer. Everyone did a great job.  Then we played some sorting  game. the children learnt to sort 'trash' into plastic. paper and glass. We had fun and the children from the different classes took turns playing it. Then we danced  again and the Toddlers and N1 returned to their classroom. The N2 , K1, K2 listened as I read a book on "The Journey of a plastic Bottle."  We talked about how plastic will stay on earth for 100 years if it is not recycled.. We reinforced the idea of recycling and the children suggested to place the 'recycling baskets' near the sign-in table so that they could recycled items from home too. The children returned  to their classes and had further discussion on the recycling. In the afternoon, we had our spelling test and had a great time dancing and playing in the park. It was a great way the end the week.

Go Greenie Everyone!
